Hunter

2018
Acrylic on plywood, Them Days magazine pages, archive quality glue, pen and ink
22” x 42”

I’ve heard so many stories of hunting as I grew up; so many that I’ve forgotten the names involved with most of them, or have mixed up one story with another... I wish I could go back and give my younger self a tape recorder and an infinite number of blank cassettes.

That’s why Them Days is so important! The research and oral history of Labrador, to an extent, have been recorded and archived for posterity... so that people such as myself don’t forget the names and the places and the events... good and bad...

This drawing of a hunter at a seal hole is on some of the pages from the magazine. I’ve simply titled it “The Hunter”...

I thank Aimee Chaulk and the staff at Them Days for the magazines! I thank my father and uncles for their personal stories...
